Carpentry & joinery in Plymouth
Carpentry in Plymouth: first fix to final finish
A lot of carpenters do one or the other. Over 26 years Mark has done both, on everything from single doors to whole conversions, so the structure is right before the plaster goes on and the finish is right after it.
First fix: before the plaster
- Studwork & partition walls
- Floor joists & structural timber
- Door linings & frames
Second fix: the finish you see
- Doors hung & furniture fitted
- Skirting & architrave
- Built-in & finish work
- Bespoke joinery
- Kitchen fitting
- Media walls
- Garden decking
- Fencing & gates
- Oak & glass balustrades

Bespoke joinery
Handmade, not bought in
The oak and glass staircase balustrade in the photo was made and fitted by hand. It's the same bench work behind the conservatory at the top of this page, “a nice custom made conservatory hand made out of 10x10 oak beams” in Mark's own words, and behind media walls and kitchen breakfast bars.
If it's made of timber and you can describe it, it can probably be made. Send a sketch or a photo on WhatsApp and ask.
See more of the work“Absolutely fantastic work on my kitchen from start to finish. The craftsmanship, attention to detail, and professionalism were outstanding. Everything was completed to a very high standard, on time, and exactly as discussed. It’s hard to find someone reliable these days, but they genuinely care about the quality of their work and making sure the customer is happy. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for quality carpentry work. Will definitely be using them again in the future.”

Carpentry questions, answered
What do first fix and second fix carpentry mean?
First fix is the structural timber work done before the walls are plastered: studwork, joists and door linings. Second fix is the finish you actually see: doors hung, skirting, architrave, built-in work. Crews Carpentry does both.
Do you make bespoke pieces?
Yes. Bespoke carpentry is where 26 years on the tools shows. Recent examples include a custom conservatory handmade from 10x10 oak beams, media walls, a handmade kitchen breakfast bar, and an oak and glass staircase balustrade.
Do you work for other trades, contractors or landlords?
We do. Recent jobs include kitchen fitting in a rental property for another contractor. If you need a reliable carpenter on your project, get in touch.
Is a job too small for you?
Rarely. As a two-man firm we take on a genuinely wide range of work, from hanging a door to a full fit-out. If you're not sure, message a photo of the job on WhatsApp and we'll tell you straight.
What does a carpenter cost in Plymouth?
Every job is priced as what it is. Hanging a door and building a media wall are quoted individually, never off a rate card. Quotations cost nothing, a two-man business keeps prices competitive, and there's 10% off your first job as a new customer.
Can you repair storm damage?
Yes. Storm-damage repair is one of our services, alongside flat and felt roofing. When storms hit last year, a customer in Brixham needed it sorted, and Crews Carpentry came and sorted it.
Bigger than a carpentry job? A whole room or house to bring back?
